15 Jan 2009

Today I have decided to record down my reflection everyday if possible, if I have one.

I have gone through a breakthrough today, I managed to ask without hesitation or in Chinese 不耻下问. As I have no idea how we should say good day to the Buddha every time we go into temples, I tried imitating others. After so long, I still have no idea how to do that.

I went to Prajnagraha today after work to do some work related to video editing, Chun Kien came along. While waiting for the videos to be uploaded, I felt compelled to ask Chun Kien the right way to do it. There were two reasons, I am sure that he knows how to do it, and I felt closer to him. He gladly showed me the way, and I felt good as well breaking the wall.

I then told him about it, and he told me he had the same barrier as well. Always afraid to ask questions. I told him my experiences after teaching in KB, one of the major difference between them is that, SJK students are more likely to keep things to themselves, especially Chinese students and SK students are more likely to voice things out, no matter how useful or rubbish they are, especially Malay and Indian students. I thought it might because Chinese students were more likely to be spoon-fed, or is it because of the ego? For me personally, I think it might be the ego.

We went for tea-session with Venerable MiaoZan, she told us about her experience in teaching kindergarden student. There is one student who was complaining about not being able to do simple things, he kept asking help from the teacher and complain that he do not know how to do those simple tasks. He kept showing that he is not interested in whatever he does, and doesn't even want to try to execute those tasks. She then talked to the kid, and tell him to start trying things out before saying don't know. After that, the kid was like another person! His interests in different things started to grow and started to learn very fast. The power of trying is so enormous that it can change the learning capabilities of a kid.

During work, I was teaching 3S, the best class of all. I don't know why, but I felt this barrier when I teach them. Since I wasn't in the best class before, there is a sense of fear to teach them, I was afraid what I am going to teach them is what they know, and that they migh feel bored learning with me. I too, assumed that everyone will pay attention to me while learning and thus progressed quickly during the beginning of the class when talking about rules and regulations. As soon as I reached MsExcel, I slowed down a little, and had more interaction with the class. Seems like the few examples given was attractive enough to catch their attention and got them to participate in the class. Any how, I still feel pressured. I guess one of the reason is that, the activities which are performed after a class, was too easy. Any how, this is the first lesson, and the connection to the server is not as perfect for all PCs, giving them jobs is a little difficult.

Plannings - Strenghten the activities after the class, discuss with fellow teachers about usage of exercise books, year plan.

  1. Yeah~~~ we should always try before claiming that "that cannot be done!". You'll always found that things are not as difficult as you think. I always try my best on works and it always proved worth it and things get done (although it takes time... but you'll enjoy the progress).

Mindset is everything! Think possitively and you'll get what you want!
